Practitioners Tool Kit . . . an introduction to core counselling skills

This course is for people who want to learn core counselling skills in order to develop and enhance the way in which they actively listen and relate to others in their current or future role(s).

Aim of course:

To introduce participants to some of the key skills required when working in a supportive role either in a voluntary or employed capacity.

It will focus on 2 principal components:

  1. Relationship building.
  2. Listening and responding skills using verbal and non-verbal communication.

The training will seek to develop the participants skills, confidence and resources in building relationships with people by considering the importance of ‘empathy’ and ‘boundaries’.

It will also introduce participants to the core skills of attending, observing, listening and responding and highlight the importance of these skills when conveying to a person that they are being truly heard and understood.

There will be an opportunity for participants to reflect on their current role and identify ways of using what they have learnt to inform their own working practice.

Target Staff:

The course is recommended for anyone who is currently working directly with people and offer emotional support as part of their role and (or) individuals that may wish to pursue a career within the helping sector.

Managers who wish to develop their interpersonal skills will also benefit from the course.
